2008 Chamber Business Awards
The Jenison Chamber of Commerce named Computer House Calls its
business of the year and Chuck Schipper its business person of the year. Chamber President Jim DeVries said Computer House Calls received the
honor largely due to owner Dan Tomaszewski's anti-pornography efforts through the Children's Assessment Center and his assistance helping
Habitat for Humanity wire homes for computers and teach resident show
to use them. Chuck Schipper received the honor for his efforts forming
Harbor House
, a group providing housing for adults with multiple
disabilities.

2008 Ted terHaar Memorial Scholarship
The chamber also awarded its annual Ted terHaar Scholarships to Jenison High School seniors Kelsey McPhee ($1500) and Laura Barritt and Alex Thivierge ($1000 each). The scholarships are available to graduating
seniors residing in Georgetown Township who plan to study business in college.

The Jenison Area Chamber of Commerce Ted terHaar Memorial
Scholarship is available to any Senior who lives in the Jenison area and
will be attending college in the Fall planning to major in the field of
business.

This scholarship honors and recognizes Ted terHaar, a past president of
the Jenison Chamber of Commerce. Ted was an educator with Jenison
Public Schools, coordinating the School To Career program prior to his untimely death in 2001.

Three scholarships are awarded annually: One is for $1500 and the other
two for $1000 each. The winners will be chosen by the Jenison Chamber of Commerce Board.
